Neurosurgeon, Brain and Nerve Surgery
More than 1700 deep brain stimulation procedures, research training under Prof. Albert L. Rhoton Jr. at the University of Florida, and over 20 years of operative experience in brain tumors, Parkinson's disease and movement disorders.
The surgical fields in which Prof. Dr. Akın Akakın operates most frequently
A neurosurgeon with more than two decades of operative experience in brain tumors, cerebrovascular disease and the surgical treatment of movement disorders.
He graduated from the English-language program at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine and completed his neurosurgical residency at the same institution. He then worked as a research scientist at the University of Florida alongside Prof. Albert L. Rhoton Jr., whose microsurgical neuroanatomy laboratory trained a generation of skull base surgeons. His deep brain stimulation training was completed at reference centers in the United States and Germany.
Deep brain stimulation is the core of his practice. With more than 1700 procedures performed, he is among the most experienced DBS surgeons in Turkey, treating patients with Parkinson's disease, essential tremor and dystonia.

Case volume, international training and a genuinely multidisciplinary approach
More than 1700 deep brain stimulation procedures. In functional neurosurgery, where electrode placement is measured in millimeters, operative volume is the single most meaningful measure of experience.
Research training at the University of Florida under Prof. Albert L. Rhoton Jr., the reference authority in microsurgical neuroanatomy, followed by advanced DBS fellowship training in Germany.
Every candidate for functional surgery is reviewed by neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry together. Patient selection, not the operation itself, determines the outcome in DBS.
