About This Treatment

A brain tumor is a mass growing inside the skull, and no two are alike. Location, size and tumor type determine the surgical approach far more than the diagnosis alone does. Prof. Dr. Akın Akakın plans each resection around one objective: removing as much tumor as is safely possible while preserving function. Neuronavigation establishes the exact position of the lesion before the first incision. Under the operating microscope, microsurgical technique allows the tumor to be separated from healthy brain tissue. Where a tumor sits close to speech or motor areas, awake craniotomy is used, so the patient's language and movement can be tested continuously during surgery and the resection stopped at the safe boundary. His operative experience covers meningiomas, gliomas, pituitary adenomas, schwannomas, skull base tumors and metastatic disease. Patients traveling from abroad are encouraged to send their imaging in advance, so the surgical plan and the likely length of stay can be discussed before any travel is booked.
