Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr. Akın Akakın was born in Lüleburgaz in 1978. He graduated from the English-language program at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine and completed his neurosurgical residency at the same university.

He worked as a research scientist at the University of Florida in the laboratory of Prof. Albert L. Rhoton Jr., the internationally recognized authority in microsurgical neuroanatomy. He subsequently completed advanced training in deep brain stimulation surgery at reference centers in the United States and Germany, in Cologne and Düsseldorf.

He has published more than 100 international scientific papers, contributed over 20 book chapters, and performed more than 1700 deep brain stimulation procedures, making him one of the leading figures in functional neurosurgery in Turkey. He is a founding member of the Turkish Brain Foundation and of the Turkish chapter of the International Neuromodulation Society, and formerly headed the Neuroanatomy Group at Bahçeşehir University. His memberships include WFNS, WSSFN, ESSFN, AANS, CNS and INS. He operates at the Medical Park Göztepe hospital complex and at İstinye University Liv Hospital Bahçeşehir.
